Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has a new building currently under construction.
Chair Kalie Miles says the building that PAWS currently uses has become rundown, and they would like more space in order to house more animals comfortably.
“Our current building at the moment is kind of falling apart. We have a lot of issues with it so we’ve been working for a couple of years now to get our new build together,” explains Miles. “And it’s finally starting, so we’re super excited. Our foundation was laid last week and construction is going to start in July.”
On top of the new building currently under construction, the PAWS logo has also received a makeover. Miles adds they ran a contest for the new logo, which now features a cat and dog in a house.
“We let anybody who wanted to submit a logo do so and then between all of the board members we decided on one,” says Miles. “We decided to update our logo because it was pretty outdated. It’s been the old one since PAWS started, which was about 2004, so it needed to be updated.”
She explains there is no timeline for when the building will be finished, and they’re graciously accepting donations.
