No corner is left untouched in the home of interior designer Cath Beckett. Her small, two-bedroom flat in Notting Hill, London, is bursting with colour and pattern.

Every inch of space is brimming with bold fabrics, bright colours, antique furniture, family heirlooms, bespoke pieces and flea-market finds, all presented with humour and warmth.

The transformation by Yellow London – the British interior design studio founded by Cath and Liv Wallers – has resulted in a captivating and comfortable living space which ;masterfully expresses Cath’s personality. Importantly, all the rooms sit comfortably together as well as having their own individual character.

Colourful fabrics were a starting point for Cath. The open-plan living room includes two 1950 bentwood armchairs reupholstered in a striking zig-zag fabric by Teyssier Hawskwood. These sit either side of the fireplace and set the tone for the room, creating the main focal point. Pink walls complement an Andrew Martin sofa in a darker pink velvet by de Le Cuona, which sits beside a scalloped ottoman designed by Cath and upholstered in cream Lelièvre boucle. Cath incorporated piping for the cushions in a lilac silk with Samuel and Sons trims.

Blinds in a pink and red Ottoline de Vries fan print, a pair of horse lamps, and a family heirloom passed down to Cath from her grandmother add personality to the room.

The pink walls continue into the tiny kitchen, which is directly behind the sitting area. The small space is filled with white cupboards but Cath proves that there’s always opportunity for a quirky touch, even in the smallest of spaces, as is seen with the purple seashell door handles.

The small dining room is a standout feature of the flat. It’s covered wall to ceiling in Pierre Fray’s Plein Eté wallpaper – a bold and bright maximalist pattern that adds a powerful punch of fun into the room. An orange table and bench from Newark Antiques Market completes the look.

Pattern and colour combine once again to create a similar look in the hallway, which is decorated with the fine detailed Rites of Spring patterned wallpaper from the JET collection by Whiteworks.

Over in the bedroom, the mix of patterns and different shades creates a characterful but restful space. The initial starting point for this room was the headboard. Cath and Liv visited the Svenskt Tenn showroom when they were working on a project in Stockholm which is where Cath found the Josef Frank fabric for her headboard, depicting cheering colourful tulip blooms. The headboard ties in perfectly with the bespoke red lacquer bedside tables and the dressing table with a skirt in Ottoline happy people fabric.

The spare bedroom is a mix of old and new. Statement glass globe lights from Oliver Bonas break up the neutral hues, while the Alice Palmer lampshade picks up the pink tones throughout the house and helps to lighten the room.

Elsewhere, the bathroom is a wonderful, joyous space. The walls, painted in Farrow & Ball’s Lulworth Blue, provides a fresh backdrop for Otto’s high impact Rainbow Stripes Encaustic cement tiles and Cath’s collection of framed vintage prints.
