Bespoke touches and stylish spaces for hosting can be found throughout this luxurious Good Class Bungalow designed by KGID

When the husband-wife designers Kelvin and Karen Gan first saw the property, they were impressed by the scale of the home. “The client bought this Good Class Bungalow (GCB) because of its location and style; they liked the classic exterior,” shares Kelvin, co-founder of KGID. “Their previous home had a modern design style. For their new home, they wanted the interior design to blend well with the classic look of the architecture.”

The 16,500 sqft abode consists of seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms for a multi-generational family of seven. At the basement entrance, the firm designed a signage with their family name, based on a handwritten calligraphy work by the owner.

For their new home, they wanted the interior design to blend well with the classic look of the architecture.

A Corvidae marble feature wall gives way to the living room on the first floor. The book-matched marble was chosen as it reminded the owner of a dragon’s face, while the spiral staircase at the back evokes an image of the mythical creature’s body. “It’s definitely good fengshui for them,” adds Kelvin.

The formal living room, one of KGID's favourite spaces, features a blue Philip Jeffries crane wall covering that adds a pop of colour

The owners love hosting guests and often invite friends and family to their home for gatherings and festive occasions. Taking that into consideration, KGID crafted plenty of stylish spaces for socialising. The formal living room on the first floor perhaps best illustrates the level of sophistication found throughout the entire home.

A large Fendi curved sofa holds court here, positioned against a backdrop of towering cabinets that feature the objets d’art and other prized possessions. A blue Philip Jeffries crane wallcovering breathes life into the space, adding an elegant touch to the interior.

On the opposite end of the first floor, the family living room provides a cosy and intimate setting for smaller gatherings. Featuring a modular curved platform sofa and an orange lounge chair from Royal Interiors, the informal space exudes an inviting atmosphere that invites family and friends to lounge and watch TV together.

At the basement lounge, a massive De Sede sofa upholstered in a rust orange fabric is the focal point. The space is perfect for the homeowners to share a drink with guests, with the warm lighting and plush oversized rug evoking a relaxed atmosphere.

Other entertainment spaces include a home theatre where the younger children of the family can gather to watch movies, as well as a steam room and massage area for a tranquil slice of paradise in the abode.

The family often gathers around the informal dining room for their meals, with the round dining table allowing for easy conversation flow

This attention to detail is carried over to the dining areas. The informal dining room, where the family often gather for meals, feature circular elements to provide a softer look to the space. Chairs from Italian manufacturer Potocco complement the round dining table, which sits under the decorative Lederam Manta chandelier from Catellani & Smith.

The owners also specifically requested for a formal dining room that could host up to 20 guests. KGID crafted a 6m-long bespoke marble dining table for the space, with modern high-back marble chairs flanking the centrepiece. The Gold Moon chandelier from Catellani & Smith adds another layer of refinement to the striking area.

“Our designs consistently involve the use of exotic materials such as marble and different wallcoverings,” says Kelvin. The design duo’s expertise in crafting luxurious spaces with a vibrant mix of materials and textures extends into the myriad of bedrooms throughout the abode.

Each bedroom features headboards with chic details and stylish accents. The master bedroom, for example, incorporates a velvet blue headboard below a geometric feature wall. The other bedrooms echo a similar material scheme, with colourful headboards and wallcoverings with lively textures.

The firm also used as many as 10 different types of marbles across the bathrooms scattered throughout the home, to create a luxurious look that is unique to each area of the abode.

Working briskly to complete the home design within nine months, KGID finished the renovation with a resulting interior that fulfils the client’s needs and brief. “The client was very impressed with the design and quality of the construction,” says Kevin. “I think they’ll use the informal and formal dining spaces as well as the dry kitchen the most; food always brings people together. Their children definitely enjoy the basement entertainment and home theatre the most.”
