Market House, a fixture on Coldharbour Lane for eight years – and a building with a history as a drinking establishment – is to reopen as an Indian diner.
But the drinking link will not be lost.
Bringing the new establishment, Karakana, to life will be Jez Galaun and Mike, founders of Brixton Brewery.
After closing during lockdown, the team that ran Market House say they workshopped ideas for this historic Brixton building and came up with Karakana, an Indian diner inspired by the “curry & a pint” traditions of the UK.
It will offer “an enticing twist on Indian dishes that pair perfectly with a cold beer”. Cocktail lovers will not be neglected, though.
Karakana is Hindi for “workshop” and, say the team, “this name represents the hard work and creative process that went into the making of this exciting new venue”.
Karakan opens this month at 443 Coldharbour Lane, SW9 8LN.
As well as this new experience, Brixton drinkers can look forward, if they have not already, to drinking once again in a long-time favourite haunt of many – the Effra Hall Tavern.
The Effra opened again this week after being closed through lockdowns.
